Mosaic

What is Seagulls Mosaic?

Mosaic turns broken tiles into beautiful art.  Our fully equipped Mosaic Workshop encourages exploration and expression of personal creativity – art that everyone can enjoy.

We at Seagulls believe that creativity and art empower communities: making something lends a great sense of pride, and making something big – as a group – creates collective pride, whether you are part of the creation or part of the creation’s audience.  A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Our artists collaborate with a range of local agencies and groups across the city of Leeds, with a close partnership with Leeds City Council.  We have taken the joy of mosaic into many schools and community groups, creating art for playgrounds, community gardens, subways and urban spaces.

Our workshops for groups or individuals make personal statement pieces, to take home.  Our large scale projects enliven living environments and make communities smile.

Customer Testimonial:

Posted @withrepost • @casadelsophie Spreading the L O V E with my Mosaic kit from @seagullsmosaic . Picked up this kit at @armley_festival yesterday for £12.50! The pack comes with everything you need including grout, stencil, instructions and mosaic pieces recycled from old chipped tiles. Super easy to follow and felt good to be creative. I now have a beautiful heart adorning my wall by the front gate.

FYI you can buy the kits online or attend a mosaic workshop at Seagulls! Be lovely to spot these hearts all around Armley and the rest of Leeds.

Book a mosaic workshop

Our mosaic workshops for adults and children are a fun, engaging and practical activity giving you the skills needed to create your very own mosaic masterpiece for display inside or outside.

Mosaic is relaxing, rewarding, and a great immersive activity for those suffering from stress, anxiety or life-weariness.  It is therapy with a real outcome – your own creation.  It is good for the soul.  Any group that needs some headspace, get in touch and piece together your own image.

During the workshop our artist will teach you how to break and nip tiles safely, how to stick your tiles onto your template and show you how to grout your finished mosaic later at home.

Our experienced artist can also deliver workshops for birthday parties, hen parties, scout, guide and community groups, staff away days and corporate events. These can be held in our dedicated mosaic studio or we can come to you and deliver on site. Group sizes from 8-30.

Schools

Our arts workers have years of experience working on site-specific mosaic projects in schools across Leeds. We have worked on a wide range of projects starting from a one-off workshop to compliment a key stage theme such as Romans, to projects that encompass the whole school, often working with as many as 200 children per project.

We also offer a range of workshops or projects that can encompass the whole school or just one class.

We always have a minimum of 2 workers per 30 children.

The costs for a school project are bespoke to the specific project. We offer a free consultation and no obligations quote. Please contact us through email seagullsmosaic@gmail.com or call 0113 2467510.

Community Groups

Working in partnership with Leeds City Council, our artists collaborate with a range of local agencies and groups across the city of Leeds.  We have taken the joy of mosaic into many community groups creating art for playgrounds, community gardens, subways and urban spaces.

Over the years we have worked with many communities consulting, designing and making large scale mosaics. Often our community projects are large in scale and grand in ambition. Some of our more notable projects have been in Armley, Burmantofts and Leeds Kirkgate Market in the centre of town.

In Armley we worked with over 500 local residents to create a large scale mosaic that was installed on the side of a prominent wall in the heart of the community. We took the project to several primary schools, Older people’s groups, community centres and held drop in sessions in a local charity shop and the community hub.

Over the years we have completed 2 large scale mosaic projects turning some very grotty underpasses into more welcoming walk ways. As with Armley, we worked in local schools, community centres and engaged with many community groups.

The Rainbow of Hope at Leeds Kirkgate Market is one of our most favourite mosaic’s. Over the course of a summer we consulted with stall holders and the general public and came up with the rainbow design. Within the rainbow is mosaiced the word hope in many different languages. The mosaic was made in the market by passers by and hundreds of people stuck a tile and were part of the project.

The beauty of mosaic is it is a very transportable art form. Once the preparation has been done it is easy to take the art to the people and this makes it very accessible for all. Mosaic is a great way to bring lasting colour and creativity to a community.
